ABOUT ME
John Murcott
I’m an entrepreneur at heart. This came from my father who ran a business his father started during the Great Depression. I work at a software company called Bridgeline with my old startup partner Ari. Before that, I worked at WordPress VIP which is a division of Automattic – the organization behind WordPress (which this site is also built on). Before that I was at WorkMarket, which started on Long Island and was acquired by ADP in early 2018. I ran Solutions Engineering and Professional Services. I spoke a lot about the Future of Work to clients, analysts, and conference attendees.
In 1996, I cofounded FatWire Software, an enterprise Web Content Management company. I ran the Products Group and Engineering team and was responsible for product strategy and direction. I grew an offshore Engineering team in Hyderabad, India to support development and QA processes for the product. I became an expert on Persuasive Content Centric Applications and spoke many times on personalization strategies and targeted marketing best practices. The company is now owned by Oracle Software.
I started my career at Accenture, where I began as a programmer and then managed development teams that connected consumer services to large commercial databases for telecommunications clients. I received my MBA from the University of Maryland with a concentration in Information Technology and Operations Management and my BA from Tufts University.
Although I grew up playing basketball, running cross country and doing many other sports, I’ve switched to endurance competitions as I’ve gotten older. I’ve done Tough Mudder, Spartan Race and completed the Ironman in Lake Placid in 2019.
I live in Port Washington, Long Island with my beautiful wife and three children.
My Life in Websites
I would put my father’s garden up against any private garden in the world. He also maintains the site himself. He finally upgraded his technical talent from RPG to HTML.
My wife is a very talented photographer and a “geek.” I have to admit, she teaches me tricks in Photoshop all the time. And she’s a handywoman around the house. And a great mother.
The circle of life keeps spinning – I’m at Bridgeline working with my business partner and friend Ari from the FatWire days. It’s great to take on the world again with him and the team here.
